What is included in a repair quote?

Ask what the first charge buys

A callout fee may cover travel, an initial assessment, a period of labour or a combination. It is not automatically the full price of the repair. Ask the business to explain its own terms before making an appointment.

Published prices are useful starting information, but the equipment, fault, location and parts required can affect the final quote. This finder does not set repair prices.

Separate the possible costs

Write down the answers or ask for them in a message. If the initial visit is only diagnostic, ask when you will receive the repair estimate and how you approve it.

• Callout or workshop assessment: is it payable even if you decline the repair?
• Labour: is a set period included, and how is additional time charged?
• Parts: are they included, and will replacements need your approval?
• Transport: are collection and return separate charges?
• Further visits: what happens if parts must be ordered?
• Tax: what is the total amount you would actually pay?

Compare like with like

Forest Mobility’s published repair terms include a callout with a stated time allowance and distance limit. Thrifty publishes a starting callout price including initial assessment. Those are different packages: a lower headline figure alone does not establish which will cost less for your job.

Confirm the current terms directly. Do not infer “free repair” from a free-callout offer, or assume a service price covers an existing fault.

Before authorising work

Agree whether the repairer should contact you before spending above a chosen amount. Ask what happens if a further fault is found, how the repair is documented and what the business says about its work or replacement parts.

Keep the quote, approval and invoice together. If something is unclear, ask the repairer to explain it before the work proceeds.
